  • Union Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Thursday stressed on the role of parents in shielding children from harmful online content and potential cyber threats.

Urging mothers to stay vigilant, Irani said parents should take a proactive role in monitoring their child’s online activity.

She was speaking at a seminar on ‘Changing roles of women in modern India’ organised by the FICCI in Kolkata.  When questioned about the growing influence of explicit content on children, Irani said parents should immediately report such content to cybercrime cells and social media websites.  Irani suggested the use of parental locks on social media accounts as an additional measure to control a child’s access to potentially harmful content.
