  • Kolkata: A 35-year-old woman died of her injuries after she fell from the balcony of her 10th floor flat of a 26-storey building at a high-rise complex in New Town late on Thursday night.

Security guards were the first to spot Kavita Kaur around 11.30 pm, moaning in pain on the green patch outside the building on the Plaza Avenida complex premises.

She was wearing a pink kurta, black leggings and a pair of socks.

The building residents and security guards informed cops who rushed her to a government hospital where she was declared dead.

Kaur used to stay at an apartment on the 10th floor of the complex’s G block with her husband and two daughters, aged 16 and 8.

Neighbours told cops there were frequent fights between the husband and wife. Following her death, cops are questioning the man to find the reason behind the fights and the woman’s death.

“The couple were married for 18 years. The woman’s husband is a businessman in Kolkata. They are originally from Punjab, but had been living in this complex for the last few years. We are taking the statements of the husband, children and her other family members to find out how she fell and confirm whether the death was accidental, homicidal or suicidal in nature. No note has been found,” said a senior officer of Bidhannagar City Police.

Officers of Techno City police station said they had received an alert from the residents’ welfare association (RWA) of Plaza Avenida and rushed to the complex, located near Ecospace.

Cops added that some relatives have also said that the woman was suffering from stress because of some personal family problems.

“We are looking into all the possibilities and also checking if there was any trouble with regard to finance or relationships in the family,” said the officer.
