• BJP protest turns violent in West Bengal’s Barrackpore, police resort to lathicharge, water cannons after stone pelting

  • Ten Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers were arrested after a ‘law-violation’ programme of the party turned violent at Barrackpore in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on Monday.

Party workers led by BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar organised the protest outside the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate over the alleged deterioration of the law-and-order situation in the area.

The police used water cannons and resorted to lathi charges to disperse BJP workers after they broke barricades and pelted stones at the police during their agitation. The BJP alleged that several workers, including women, were injured in the baton charge by the police.
