• End of winter chill signals rising temperatures, rain

  • As the winter chill wanes, the city is set for a warmer spell accompanied by rain showers from Wednesday. Kolkata anticipated a minimum temperature of 13.6 degrees Celsius Monday, and recorded a maximum of 23.7 degrees Celsius in the afternoon.

    Starting Wednesday, both the city and its northern districts are poised for light to moderate rain, persisting possibly until Friday, the weather department said.

    Lowest temperatures may ascend after the anticipated rains, MeT official said. Over the next two days, dry weather is forecasted for the city and its neighbouring southern districts, including Howrah, Hooghly, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, North and South 24 Parganas, Purulia, Murshidabad, Nadia, Birbhum, Purba and Pachim Bardhaman, Bankura, and Jhargram. Shallow to moderate fog is expected.

    While Purulia maintains a consistent lowest temperature of 8.1 degrees Celsius, Sriniketan is expected to touch the lowest at 9.4 degrees Celsius.

    Darjeeling continues to remain the coldest district at 3.8 degrees Celsius at night.

    Starting Tuesday, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Coochbehar, North and South Dinajpur, Malda may witness light rain. The lowest temperature in Coochbehar is expected to be at 7.9 degrees at night, while Jalpaiguri and Kalimpong will hover around 8 degrees Celsius.
