• IIM-C campus revamp starts with new hostel

  • Kolkata: IIM-Calcutta on Wednesday laid the foundation stone of the new hostel and paved the way for the phased modernisation of the campus in Joka to transform it into a carbon-neutral and ecologically green facility.

    An IIM-C official cited the urgent need to upgrade the infrastructure for IIM-Calcutta to retain its competitive edge at the national as well as global stage.Sources said that the institute has a plan to modernize its entire campus by 2036.

    “Hence, infrastructure norms like carbon-zero, ability to efficiently support and use digital technologies are now essential requirements. The institute now needs to build new/additional hostel and academic blocks to fulfil its vision and mission while simultaneously replacing the old hostels,” the official said, adding that the upgrade was also required to attract international scholars.

    Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan laid the foundation stone virtually from Shastri Bhawan in New Delhi. “I am happy that the oldest IIM and one of the premier institutions is going for a new look,” said Pradhan, adding that IIM-Calcutta has produced many successful business tycoons, administrators and entrepreneurs. He spoke of the unique heritage of IIM-Calcutta and said that in the next 25 years, the present students will be at the peak of their career. Hence, they will be the ones who will lead the various sectors.
