• Rain sweeps across West Bengal, bringing warmer minimum temperatures

  • Kolkata and various districts of West Bengal experienced rain on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, leading to a rise in the minimum temperatures across the region. The Met officials said the rain is expected to persist until Friday, accompanied by partly cloudy skies.

    The minimum temperature in Kolkata is predicted to reach 21.3 degree Celsius during the night, contributing to a milder climate. Beyond the city, East and West Midnapore, Howrah, Hooghly, Purulia, Jhargram, and Bankura can anticipate light to moderate rain. Whereas East and West Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, and North and South 24 Parganas can expect thunderstorms with lightning, followed by moderate fog.

    Purulia and Murshidabad are set to experience comparatively warmer minimum temperatures at 13 degree Celsius, a notable increase from the previous week. Purulia is also expected to witness a daytime high of 26 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, Baharampur, Bankura, and Bishnupur are projected to have a minimum temperature of around 14 degree Celsius, with Bardhaman and Sriniketan at 15 degree Celsius.

    Darjeeling remained the coldest district in West Bengal on Thursday with an unchanged lowest temperature of 2.6 degree Celsius. Kalimpong recorded 8.6 degree Celsius, Siliguri and Jalpaiguri (10 degree Celsius), Coochbehar (11.1 degree Celsius), and Malda (15 degree Celsius).

    According to the Met official, no significant change in night temperatures is anticipated over the next five days in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal districts.

    Darjeeling and Kalimpong are poised for another week of rain, including the possibility of light to moderate rain/snow. Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Coochbehar, North and South Dinajpur, and Malda can expect rain until Friday. Additionally, there is an alert for a potential hailstorm in Kalimpong.
