Cops bust gang that sprays chemicals on targets, 1 held

Kolkata: A member of a gang, which sprayed chemicals in the eyes of their targets, mostly at parking lots near pubs, and made away with their valuables, has been arrested. The accused would snatch bags, purses and electronic gadgets and even ride away on targets’ bikes, police said.
Accused Sushant Singh was rounded up following a complaint lodged by a Collin Street resident, who said he was attacked near a pub on Mirza Ghalib Street on Tuesday night.Police said victim Agnibesh Shukla was taking his bike out of the parking lot when some young men walked up to him and sprayed something in his eyes. In pain, as Shukla sat down on the road, the gang snatched away his mobile, gold ring, wallet and the bike key and rode away on his bike.
“Locals came to his help as his eyes swelled up and reddened. He later lodged a complaint at the Park Street PS,” said an officer. Tracking the mobile tower, Singh was picked up from Kabardanga in Haridevpur. Singh told police there were six members in the gang that operated across Kolkata.
