• Commuters squat on tracks, block trains

  • Kolkata: Irate passengers squatted on the tracks at the Bidhannagar Road or Ultadanga station, disrupting peak-hour services for around two hours, from 7pm on Friday.

    Six locals were delayed, Eastern Railway officials said. “They demanded a change of platform for several trains from Platform 2 on the Up main line to Platform 1 on the Up suburban line.Up Sealdah Main line services were disrupted,” an ER official said. “Switching scheduled platforms will jeopardize the algorithm of several services.” The agitation was finally lifted around 8.30pm.

    ER spokesperson Kaushik Mitra said, “The agitators could have placed their demands on the proper forum rather than disrupting services.” tnn
