• Businessman ‘kidnapped in police vehicle’, 3 held in Kolkata

  • Three persons were arrested on Saturday for allegedly kidnapping a businessman in a vehicle with a ‘police’ sticker in Haridevpur area of Kolkata.

    According to reports, Kolkata-based businessman Nitin Shaw (22) was leaving a bar around 11.30 pm on Friday when a group of men forced him into an SUV at gunpoint.

    “As soon as Shaw was kidnapped, local residents informed the police. The SUV used in the kidnapping had a ‘police’ sticker. We tracked the car in Bidhan Pally near Rail Line Bazar, James Long Sarani,” said police.

    “Around Saturday midnight, Shaw was rescued and three persons were arrested in connection with the incident. We have started an investigation in the case,” said a senior police officer, adding that the 22-year-old businessman is a resident of Azadgarh.

    The three accused were identified as Biplab Patra alias Victor (33) of Ghorui Para, Ashoke Majhi (46) of 180/9, MG Road and Arunangshu Das (42) of 18/7/2, MG Road.

    Police said they are interrogating the three to find out more about the incident and their motive.
