According to the police in Domkal, the parents, who admitted to killing their child during interrogation, were arrested on Sunday. They said the couple allegedly hit her on a wall several times leading to her death. The body of the baby has been recovered, they added.

Dabir Sheikh, the grandfather of the baby, alleged his son Rintu hit and killed his granddaughter and that his daughter-in-law was also involved in her murder.

According to police sources, Rintu Sheikh, who worked in Kerala as a worker, returned to the village a week ago. He started abusing his wife allegedly because she gave birth to a girl child.

Officers at the Domkal police station said the couple initially denied killing their daughter but later broke down during questioning and confessed to the crime.

“Prima facie, the newborn baby was killed by her parents as they wanted a son. The couple also claimed they were unable to raise them due to financial constraints,” said a police officer.
