  • Kolkata: The laying of underground cable ducts is pending on a few more stretches on the roads passing through various blocks in Salt Lake. The Nabadiganta Industrial Township Authority (NDITA) authorities have planned to lay such ducts at Street No. 4, 8 and 14 on the left side of the road leading to Webel Bhavan and also on Street No. 6, 16 and 19. Most of the main road stretches already have underground cable ducts, barring these stretches on the inner roads, an official said.

    The authorities have pegged an estimate of around Rs 5.4 crore for the underground cable duct work. The work needs to be completed within 45 days from the date of commencement. The authorities are engaging agencies for operation and maintenance of the underground cable ducts.

    Among other infrastructure development work, the work for Sector V’s iconic gate is in full swing as NDITA is planning to develop the stretch from Wipro crossing to College More into a smart street with cycle lanes, street furniture, smart bus stand, water ATMs, public art, CCTV surveillance and decorative lighting and signages. The authorities are expected to inaugurate the 40 feet rectangular gate with glass structure, lift and staircase before Durga Puja The authorities will also engage agencies to conduct night time cleaning of streets and footpaths and annual maintenance of the 130 CCTVs installed at various points. A G+1 building near Benfish crossing with toilet and public amenities will open soon. NDITA is also conducting footpath repair work.
