Kolkata: The 28-year-old owner of a tea stall on Hare Street was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 20-year-old bar girl, hailing from south Kolkata, in the Prinsep Ghat area. The victim has stated that the accused, Taufiq Ali, had invited her over on Monday night after which she was raped.
The victim, an employee of a central Kolkata bar, claimed in her complaint that she had got acquainted with the accused after meeting him on earlier occasions at a pub.The accused had called her to Panighat, close to Prinsep Ghat, where he assaulted, molested and raped her, she claimed.
The accused was sent to police custody for two weeks on Wednesday. The woman was sent for medical test. “Her apparels have been sent for forensic examination and we are also checking CCTV footage,” police said.
