  • Alleging a rise in cases of crime against women, BJP legislators on Wednesday moved an adjournment motion in the Assembly, demanding a discussion on the state’s law and order situation.

Six BJP MLAs, led by Agnimitra Pal and Malti Rava Roy, submitted the adjournment motion to Speaker Biman Banerjee and demanded a statement from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Protesting against the Speaker’s decision to not allow the adjournment motion, the BJP MLAs walked out of the House.   “In a state where the CM is a woman, women are not safe. This is very unfortunate. But the TMC is not ready for a discussion on crimes against women and the law and order situation,” Paul said.

Hitting out at the BJP, TMC minister Chandrima Bhattacharya said: “They are talking about protection of women here. But why is the BJP not talking about the incident of Bilkis Bano or Manipur? Infact, they are trying to disturb the peace in Bengal.”   TMC MLA Tapas Roy said, “BJP MLAs don’t want to participate in the Assembly proceedings. So, they create chaos in a planned way.”
