Kolkata: The New Garia-Airport Metro link’s phase II (extension beyond Ruby to Metropolitan) met another hurdle as cops on Thursday suspended traffic trials for the handover of the sites. An FOB is supposed to come up at this location linking both sides of EM Bypass to the Metropolitan (Beleghata) Metro station.
The result of the trial was utter chaos.The 15-odd minute blockade took around an hour to normalize. The traffic queue reached Chingrighata at one end and Panchannagram on the other. DC (traffic) Yeliwad Shrikant Jagannathrao said, “We will decide the time and date of the traffic trials on a later occasion after sorting out a few technical issues.”
“RVNL was caught off guard as the traffic trials’ decision was taken at the last minute. They were asked to provide 30 guard rails for the trials. Naturally, they couldn’t comply,” a Railways official said.
