  • Kolkata: A number of private schools formed an association on Thursday to fight challenges in future.

Silver Point School principal Sucharita Roychowdhury had urged educators in the city, including principals and teachers, to come together to form an association. The appeal read, “I seek all your help in coming together to form an association whereby we can hold each other’s hand and go forward in our mission/vision of our institutions successfully.”

The move came after a class X student, Sk Shan (16), fell from the fourth floor of Silver Point School on Sept 4 and a protest followed, holding the institute responsible. But the HC recently disposed of the case, in which three teachers and the principal were named as accused.

Roychowdhury said, “Misinformation and fake news left us traumatized. I was afraid to face anybody outside and was weakened by a crisis that left me bearing the burden of school leadership alone.”

Roychowdhury rold TOI, “We have been flooded with applications to make an association. Some pre-schools, too, responded. The point is to stay together and help each other. We can tie up with counselling centres for sessions to deal with mental health issues. We will have a support list of people so that if an emergency comes they can get in touch with the right person.”

Shri Shikshayatan School principal Sangeeta Tandon said, “This is all about coming together and supporting each other to solve issues.”

Sri Sri Academy principal Gargi Banerjee said, “We feel we need to come together as schools face issues these days. If we are together, it will be easier to address these issues.”

Educator Anuradha Gupta said, “I think this is first time where all those burning issues have been discussed here. The entire system is evolving and we are co-evolving. This is a very good initiative.”
