Kolkata: A Baruipur court on Friday remanded Trinamool leader Arabul Islam in police custody till Feb 21. The ex-Bhangar MLA was arrested by Kolkata Police on Thursday in connection with a June 2023 murder during the panchayat polls in Bhangar. Arabul’s lawyers claimed that he was unwell and is under treatment. The lawyers also argued that on that day Arabul was nowhere close to the scene of crime.
Police argued that the 3,000 people in the spot that day were being “controlled” by Arabul. tnn
