• Jadavpur University's vice chancellor and deadlock

  • KOLKATA: Jadavpur University’s (JU) officiating vice chancellor is supposed to perform his duties as no one can remove him from the post as per Supreme Court order, said state education minister Bratya Basu on Friday in response to a question from media.

    JU officiating VC Buddhadeb Sau who was removed from the post by the chancellor C V Ananda Bose on December 23, few hours before the annual convocation ceremony and a counter order from the state higher education department told him to continue.However, Sau stopped to perform the duties of vice chancellor to stay away from the controversies. Responding to the question from media education minister Bratya Basu said, “According to the Supreme Court order all are taking care of the vice chancellor’s office and they are entitled to perform duties only. So, at this stage no one can say to remove any of them superseding the Supreme Court order by the education department or the chancellor’s office is against the law.”

    The officiating JU VC, Buddhadeb Sau, has stopped attending the VC’s office from December 27 after being removed by the chancellor just few hours before the annual convocation held on December 24 created an administrative deadlock in the university while higher education department asked him to continue by sending a formal letter. However, Sau has stopped attending office or performing other official duties that created a complete deadlock in the campus.
