  • Kolkata: Mohammedan Sporting got back to winning ways as they thrashed a hapless Rajasthan United FC 5-1 in an I-League encounter at Naihati on Tuesday.

Gathering only one point from their last two matches, the Kolkata giants could not afford to slip further and Andrey Chernyshov’s boys came out with all guns blazing in the match played in a closed stadium.

The win strengthened their position at the top of the table with 31 points from 14 matches while Rajasthan are at ninth place with 15 points from 13 matches.

Honduran footballer Eddie Hernandez was the star of the show with a fine hat-trick. The winners led 3-1 at half-time and added two more in the second session to make it a rout.

Fanai Lalremsanga opened the floodgates in the 21st minute while Mirjalol Kasimov got one in the 64th minute from the penalty spot. The visitors got their only goal against the run of play when William Pauliankhum’s first touch set up a finish in the roof of the net in the 29th minute.
