  • Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, who was stopped from visiting Sandeshkhali for the second time this week, on Thursday said that he would move Calcutta High Court seeking permission to visit the area.

Adhikari was on his way to the restive-area along with three other BJP MLAs when police stopped his vehicle at Rampur village near Sandeshkhali. He alleged that the police stopped them despite only four of them going to the area, which did not violate the prohibitory order. “Three of our party MLAs and myself were going to Sandeshkhali. Yet the police stopped us saying if we go there then it would create a law and order situation. Tomorrow, I will move Calcutta High Court against this and I will pray that we are allowed to visit Sandeshkhali and meet the people,” the BJP MLA said, who was accompanied by three BJP legislators Shankar Ghosh, Chandana Bauri and Tapasi Mondal.

A huge police force has been deployed in and around Sandeshkhali. On Monday, police had stopped Adhikari and other BJP MLAs on EM Bypasss from visiting Sandeshkhali, citing prohibitory orders in the area.

Reacting to the BJP leader’s comments, TMC leader Santanu Sen said, “The police stopped them as they were going there to foment trouble, police stopped them after assessing the ground situation in Sandeshkhali.”
