KOLKATA: The presence of mind of a Ballygunge PS constable helped foil a kidnapping bid on a Howrah-based businessman on Thursday afternoon near Ballygunge Phanri.
While one accused was nabbed from the spot, three others were arrested from Karaya from where the victim was also rescued. The incident was played out over a period of 20 minutes from 4.40 pm.
“Constable Manik Lal Mohanty was on his rounds when he found five persons suspiciously taking one person in their custody.Mohanty intervened promptly and managed to apprehend one of the culprits but the rest fled from the spot in a SUV with the victim,” said DC (southeast) Zafar Ajmal kidwai.
On pursuing statement of the lone person apprehended by cops, victim Subhodeep Roy of Mahesh Paul Lane, Howrah was rescued from a building on Chamru Khansama Lane under Karaya PS and three other accused were arrested. The vehicle used was also seized.
Sources said there were business-related issues and that the victim was reportedly not clearing pending dues.
