Two masked men entered a primary school in North Dinajpur district on Thursday afternoon and attacked a female teacher with sharp weapons many times.
Ratna Khatun, 35, is under treatment at Raiganj Government Medical College & Hospital with serious injuries. She has filed a police complaint, alleging that the brothers of her deceased husband attacked her.
Khatun is a resident of Maldakhand village and teaches at Bhatun Free Primary School, 22km from Raiganj.
In 2007, Abdul Kader, her husband, died because of ailments. Before his death, he had bequeathed a 16-bigha ancestral plot to their son Mohammad Russel.
Later, Khatun married Abdul Jalil, a resident of the same village.
“Since then, Golam Yahya and Osman Gani, brothers of Abdul Kader, have been exerting pressure on my wife to hand over the plot to them. They had earlier attacked her and wanted Russel to transfer the land to them,” Jalil said.
Khatun was attacked on Thursday when she went to the washroom at the school. Two men who had their faces covered entered the premises and headed for the washroom. There, they took out sharp weapons and slashed Khatun many times.
The teacher collapsed while the attackers fled. After some time, another teacher noticed her lying on the floor and bleeding. He informed others and soon, Khatun was rushed to the hospital.
“Two people suddenly attacked me in the washroom. I suspect the brothers of my ex-husband were behind the attack. I have filed a complaint with police,” she said.
The Raiganj police said they were trying to track down the two attackers.
