  • KOLKATA: Lalbazar has proposed to the transport department to divert at least six bus routes that take Vivekananda Road-CR Avenue-MG Road-Howrah station alignment while returning to the city and travel through Strand Road (north) via Posta and Girish Park and then towards Vivekananda Road to ease pressure on CR Avenue and MG Road.

Cops said the RTA has given its nod in-principle but sought some clarifications from bus owners. Some of the most popular routes connecting north and northern fringes to Howrah use this alignment, like L238. Some other routes like 15A/1, VS2, Mourigram Mini (20A), 215 and Teghoria mini are also popular.

Bus owners have questioned whether they will get enough passengers from Posta and the need to travel extra on an already crowded stretch. “The fact that we get a good number of passengers from College Street area just because we touch the MG Road-CR Avenue Crossing must also be kept in mind,” said a bus operator on L-238 route.
