• After complaint of child abuse, state child rights panel visits Sandeshkhali

  • A six-member delegation of State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) along with their chairperson Tulika Das visited Sandeshkhali on Saturday to ascertain the alleged complaints of child abuse in the restive area.

    The villagers have alleged that a seven-month-old child was snatched from her mother’s lap and thrown away by miscreants in Sandeshkhali on February 9. The child is now under treatment.

    After the team visited the child’s house and met the family, the commission assured that police personnel will be deputed in front of their house, thereby, ensuring the family’s security in future also.

    State child rights panel advisor Sudeshna Roy emphasised that, “It is our duty to give protection to every child in the state and also see that their rights are protected.”

    “We spoke with the district administration and district health officials. The family’s security will be ensured by district administration, they said a police personnel will be deputed in front of the house. Treatment of the child will also be ensured,” Roy added.

    Meanwhile, the child’s mother said, “I told everything, what happened to the commission. However, even after that, we are in fear that when the media, commission and others will go away what will happen to us.”

    Notably, the National Child Protection Commission has already sought a report into the matter and regarding the child. A letter has been sent to the District Magistrate of North 24 Parganas for a report.
