SANDESHKHALI: A Basirhat court on Sunday turned down Trinamool functionary Shibaprasad Hazra alias Shibu's bail plea and remanded him in police custody for eight days after cops submitted that he was "influential" and his interrogation was necessary "to collect evidence".
Shibu was arrested on Saturday evening after Basirhat court allowed police to add gang rape and attempt to murder charges against him.
A Sandeshkhali woman, who had earlier lodged a complaint of molestation against Shibu and zilla parishad member Uttam Sardar, claimed on Sunday that the duo's associates ransacked her house on Saturday while posing as "police in uniform".Basirhat police station, was fortified overnight with security.
