  • KOLKATA: A TV journalist was arrested in Bengal's Sandeshkhali on Monday in a case of criminal trespassing and molestation filed against him by a woman, Basirhat SP Hossain Mehedi Rehman said.

The complainant alleged that the journalist illegally entered her home when she wasn't "in proper attire" and started filming her despite being asked not to do so.

The accused will be produced in a Basirhat court on Tuesday, police said.

Union I&B minister Anurag Singh Thakur condemned the arrest as an attack on media freedom, saying it was unfortunate that a journalist reporting on "atrocities on women" had been targeted in a state with a woman CM. Thakur, who was in Guwahati, said coercive action against journalists in Bengal wasn't a new trend.
