  • KOLKATA: West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose visited Chopra in Uttar Dinajpur district to meet the family members of four children who tragically lost their lives in a soil cave-in incident near the India-Bangladesh border.

Governor Bose arrived in Chopra after traveling by train to Kishanganj and then by road, according to a source from the Raj Bhavan.

The Governor will personally speak to the grieving families and parents of the deceased children. The incident occurred on February 12 when an excavator was digging a trench in Chetanagach village of Chopra block, causing a mound of soil to collapse and bury the children, aged between five and twelve.

The construction work was being carried out by the Border Security Force (BSF). The tragic incident took a political turn when West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), blamed the BSF for negligence and demanded an investigation into the incident. TMC leaders also met Governor Bose at the Raj Bhavan to press for an investigation and requested his visit to Chopra.Explore Your Financial Landscape with Personalized Credit Insights.
