  • Assuring complete support to the women in Sandeshkhali, Governor CV Ananda Bose on Monday launched a mission —Santosh-kali — that aims to protect the dignity of women.

In his message to women in the restive-area, who have been subjected to alleged sexual harassment by TMC leaders, the Governor said, “To my aggrieved sisters of Sandeshkhali I give my assurance that we are all with you. You need not be afraid. Your rightful place in society shall be secured and you shall be meaningfully empowered to guide your families and the society. Let peace bloom in Sandeshkhali. Let the message of ‘Sandeshkhali to Santosh-kali’ rise from the winter of deception, deceit and treachery that has cast its shadow over Sandeshkhali. I propose to launch Mission Santosh-kali today in the presence of several young women.”

The shocking reports that have surfaced from Sandeshkhali concerning molestation and harassment of women, intimidation or land grab and the prevailing helplessness of women in the area should act as a spur for effective social action against such malaise in society, said the Governor. “On the basis of the field visit and extensive interaction with the victims of Sandeshkhali, I have formulated Mission Santosh-kali as a shield against future assault on the dignity and honour of women of India,” he said.

The mission aims to spread awareness among civil society that empowerment of women has enormous positive socio-economic ramifications; serve as a seminal mission to generate and implement ideas to effectively protect the honour and dignity of womenfolk in society – in hearth and home; draw up and implement effective action plans to defend the rights of women and to equip them to realise their inner strength, undertake effective advocacy functions highlighting the rights of women and campaigning against overt and covert attacks on womanhood and

In addition to this, Governor Bose also appealed to political parties and people from diverse backgrounds to organise a ‘peace visit’ to Sandeshkhali.
