  • Kolkata: A complaint from the American investigation agency, FBI, has helped cops in Kolkata bust a fake international BPO that recruited BTech students to run their daily operations. The fraud could run into crores of rupees. Two persons—Ramesh Bharti (29) of Gaya in Bihar and Ridip Nilay Chatterjee (31) of Serampore—were arrested after a raid at Ujjwala Complex on Wednesday, cops said.

Cops found that the accused were B.Tech batchmates and had set up the fake call centre. They collected crypto currency wallets and bank account details illegally from various sources. They had links with another fraudster, Moinuddin Shahbaz, held earlier.

According to Joint CP (crime) Waquar Raza, they had arrested 10 persons earlier and were scrutinizing the crypto currency trail when they received a communication from a crypto currency trading platform. “We found transaction IPs and two crypto accounts. We identified the account holders and an address at Eco Park PS area. Thus, the raid was done,” cops said.
