The development came on a day when West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar visited violence-hit Sandeshkhali. The village had witnessed angry protests by residents last week who had accused local TMC leaders of sexually harassing women and land grabbing.
Sources said after the woman recorded a statement, police filed the case against Hazra and Bhanu Mondol and Amir Ali.
The DGP reached Sandeshkhali around 2 pm on Thursday, which marked his first visit to Sandeshkhali since protests broke out in the area. He was accompanied by ADG (South Bengal) Supratim Sarkar and other police officials
According to sources, Kumar held meetings with district and local police officials at Sandeshkhali police station. Later, he also talked to local civic volunteers.
Talking to reporters, Kumar said, “Whatever I have to say, I will brief you at the time of return.”
After around three hours of meetings, he visited adjoining islands of Situlia, Sardarpara, Manipur in the evening to understand the situation there, a source said, adding that he will be staying in Sandeshkhali for the night and leave for Kolkata on Thursday.
