Kolkata: A class XII CBSE examinee had to be rushed to hospital from the exam hall on Thursday after she slashed the skin on her wrist and throat with a blade in the school washroom when the exam was still on.
The girl was taken to a government hospital in Salt Lake, severely bleeding from her left hand and throat, where a doctor nursed the wounds before allowing her family members to take her back home. “Thankfully, the injuries were limited to the upper layers of the skin and hadn’t damaged the muscle or veins,” said Partha Pratim Guha, the superintendent of Bidhannagar State General Hospital.
The girl studies at a CBSE school in Dum Dum and the exam centre was a Salt Lake school, where the incident happened around 1.10 pm. The girl was appearing for the English Core exam.According to cops, her family members said she was under stress in the run-up to the exam and suffering from depression.
“The girl had gone to the washroom. When she didn’t returned in over five minutes the invigilator went out to check and found her in a pool of blood,” said a Bidhannagar police officer.
