  • A first-year Jadavpur University PG student accused a professor of “mental and sexual harassment”. Denying the charges, the professor asked the university authorities to conduct an investigation.

In her complaint, mailed to the JU authorities, the student alleged that she received an “indecent proposal” from the professor during an exam Wednesday in exchange for good marks.

“The person (professor) is the primary person involved in these incidents, and he along with his associates have harassed me during the ongoing exams both sexually and mentally, which has taken a toll on my mental health, which is proving detrimental towards the remaining exams in this semester. I fear the person involved will harm my academic career,” she wrote to JU Pro V-C Amitava Datta and Registrar Snehomanju Basu.

She forwarded a copy of the mail to Jadavpur Police Station, UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar and West Bengal Commission for Women Chairperson Leena Gangopadhyay.

On February 21, she alleged the invigilator told her she had been summoned by the professor to his chamber, where she was given the indecent proposal.

The professor said: “This is completely a baseless allegation. I was not on invigilation duty that day (February 21)… .”
