  • Kolkata: After Dubai’s announcement of a five-year multiple entry tourist visa for Indian travellers, travel agents expect a large number of tourists from the city to head to the Gulf city this summer. They expect that the the figures may even match the number of people who travel to South-East Asian countries like Thailand and Malaysia.

This visa, issued within two to five working days upon receiving and accepting service request, permits the holder to stay there for 90 days.It can be extended once for a similar period, while the total stay should not exceed 180 days in one year.

According to the latest data from the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, Dubai received 2.5 million overnight visitors from India — a substantial percentage of them from eastern India, including Kolkata — between Jan and Dec 2023.

“This historic milestone will also provide a platform for increased economic collaboration,” said Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism regional head (proximity markets) Bader Ali Habib. Kolkata has 24 weekly and at least three daily flights to Dubai.
