• State sanctions ₹4.4 cr for Salt Lake’s Baisakhi Abasan repairs

  • Kolkata: The state urban development department plans to undertake repair and restoration work of C and D type buildings of Baisakhi Abasan in Salt Lake which have been lying in a dilapidated condition. The housing complex, located in AG Block, is one of the oldest and largest govt housing complexes of the township for state employees. It is maintained by the urban development department.

    The Salt Lake reclamation and development circle under the UD department has been given administrative approval and financial sanction of Rs 4.4 crore by the state to undertake work which will be done in phases. The fund will be released in phases in 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26. An agency will be engaged for taking up the work.

    As per plans, the repair work will include restoration of columns outside, beams and canopy slabs which have developed cracks. The staircases which have been severely damaged and the wood works will also undergo repairs.

    TOI on Sunday visited the C- and D-type blocks and found several places in damaged condition with chunks from the outside wall falling off and cracks on the columns and beams outside.
