  • Kolkata: Anirban Mitra, a 20-year-old and a third-year college student, was arrested by the officers of Lake Town police station in the early hours of Saturday for forging a fake police ID card and posing as a Kolkata Police officer.

    During a routine naka check late on Friday night, the Lake Town traffic guard stopped a motorcycle rider, who was violating the one-way rule and was not even wearing a helmet.

    The youth identified himself as a Kolkata Police officer and showed the personnel on naka duty a police identity card and claimed that he was from the DC (DD) proxy agent at detective department of Lalbazar.

    Officers from the Lake Town police station approached him and started interrogating him.

    During interrogation, the youth was identified as Anirban Mitra. He later also admitted that the ID card he had shown was fake.
