HOWRAH: Bisakha Das, a class X student of an English-medium school in Liluah, died when a kerosene stove exploded in her flat near Biradingi, Howrah around 8 am on Tuesday.
According to police sources, Bisakha's mother was cooking on a stove and went to another room for some work and the girl was studying alone. As soon as the stove burst, the room caught fire. The girl's elder brother, an engineering student, and neighbours rushed in and doused the flames.
They took the girl to Howrah district hospital where the doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Cops from Liluah police station have registered an unnatural death case and started an investigation. Later, forensic experts collected samples from the room where the fire took place. "We are waiting for the forensic report to ascertain the reason behind the fire," added the officer.
