  • Kolkata: The maximum temperature touched 30°C in Kolkata after a week on Wednesday, and the minimum temperature jumped two degrees to 21.6°C, a notch above normal. Weathermen have said that this could persist and the city could get warmer over the course of the week due to local heating.

“The cool northwesterly wind had pulled the mercury down temporarily, but it has lost momentum and local heating will now be stronger. It will push the mercury up, though not very sharply. The maximum temperature could rise up to 32°C by the end of the week but it won’t get warmer than that. The city is now entering its pre-monsoon phase when temperature will rise and thunderstorms will occur. There is, however, no immediate possibility of rain in Kolkata or south Bengal,” said Met director G K Das.
