KOLKATA: News of Shahjahan Sheikh's arrest was greeted with joy in many parts of Sandeskhali with villagers distributing sweets and women playing with gulal even as administration imposed fresh restrictions under Section 144 of CrPC in 49 places on Thursday in anticipation of trouble.
Cops were deployed in various areas, including at Shahjahan's Akunjipara residence under Sarberia-Agarhati gram panchayat.
Police said restrictions were imposed in Sarberia, Boiramari, Nazat, Metiakhali, Taltala, Kalinagar, Trimohini, Dhamakhali, Khulna hat, Monipur, Patrapara, Hatgachi and Atapur, all falling under blocks I and II of Sandeshkhali, till March 3.
