  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday criticised the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal over corruption charges, saying that it turns “every central scheme into a scam”.

Addressing a public meeting at Krishnanagar in Nadia district, PM Modi said Trinamool Congress (TMC) has become a synonym for corruption, betrayal, atrocities and dynastic politics and TMC today stands for “Tu, Main Corruption hi corruption. (You, me and only corruption)”.

“Many times, the people of Bengal gave a huge mandate to the Trinamool Congress hoping for a better government. But over the years, TMC has become synonymous with corruption, betrayal, atrocities and dynastic politics. It wants people to remain poor so that its politics and khel (game) continues,” PM Modi added.

“TMC’s tolabazi (extortion) politics decides everything. Their leaders want a cut in everything. In Bengal, about 25 lakh fake job cards were created in MGNREGA [Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act] scheme. Even those who are yet to be born have job cards in their name. TMC’s tolabaz leaders looted people’s money. They want to put their own stickers in central schemes. In Bengal, the TMC government turns every scheme into a scam. That is TMC’s mastery.”

PM Modi asserted that free ration to the people of the country will continue for the next five years. “This is Modi’s guarantee. But even in this scheme, TMC puts its own stickers. They also looted ration meant for the people,” he said.

Modi also slammed the Mamata Banerjee government for taking a dig at the inauguration of Bengal’s first All India Institute Of Medical Science (AIIMS) by saying that the project did not have environmental clearance.

“Modi gave a guarantee to give Bengal its first AIIMS. Modi’s guarantee means guarantee purno hoar guarantee (assurance to fulfil the guarantee). A few days ago, I inaugurated the AIIMS at Kalyani. It is a modern hospital with a 1,000-bed capacity. But the state government has a problem with this. They are saying why permission was not taken. But here open permission is given to TMC’s tolabazi (extortion), loot and gundagardi (muscle-flexing). But they said that the project did not have environmental clearance,” said PM Modi.

The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) last month claimed that the AIIMS Kalyani is yet to get environmental clearance.
