Kolkata: A youth drowned while bathing in a pond in Ajaynagar in south Kolkata on Sunday morning.
According to police, 20-year-old Subho Halder, a resident of Shantinagar Colony in Narendrapur, had gone to the pond with four of his friends. However, while taking a bath in the water body around 1.30 pm, he somehow drowned. His friends tried to rescue him but failed.
Halder was later brought out of the water by disaster management group personnel of Kolkata Police and was taken to Baghajatin State General Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by an attending doctor.
No complaint of foul play was lodged till late on Sunday, police said. Sources added that Halder had recently lost his job and was upset about it.
