  • Kolkata: The State Forensic Sciences Laboratory (SFSL) officials are expected to visit the fire charred wing of Lee Memorial Mission School on Monday. Fire had broken out on the school premises on Friday afternoon.

School authorities said normal classes had already been resumed on the school campus on Saturday. But some of the classrooms, which were on the first floor of the fire-affected wing were shifted to other portions of the premises. Two rooms were badly damaged in the fire.

The campus houses several facilities, including Lee Memorial Girls’ High School, a primary school, a school up to Class VIII, a girls’ hostel and a women’s hostel, where the fire had broken out.

Cops and fire officials had suspected that the inferno had started from a faulty charging point while a gadget was being charged. But, the SFSL visit can only confirm the real reason behind the blaze.

Meanwhile, many boarders, whose rooms in the women’s hostel were gutted, had either gone back home or shifted to some other place. The boarders will resume their work or classes from Monday.

“Electricity has been restored in all other sections of the premises apart from the affected wing. Once the forensic officials’ visit is over, the school will apply for restoration of power in that section,” said a senior officer of Kolkata Police.
