  • Kolkata: More than 2,100 motorists, with 50% being two-wheeler riders, were prosecuted during a late night crackdown against traffic violations by Kolkata Traffic Police on Sunday. The cops, led by divisional DCs, raided 50 odd points across the city, including spots outside hotels, bars and nightclubs, till the wee hours of Monday. Several were booked for drink-driving.

“The prime focus was on violators on two-wheelers. It was reported that in pockets like Beliaghata-Narkeldanga and Mukundapur, rogue bikers were overspeeding on deserted roads. As many as 800 bikers were booked for not wearing helmets, while over 250 were penalised for tripling,” cops said. The detective department also helped carry out special raids and seize ammunition and liquor. tnn
