• KMDA plans pedestrian subway at Karunamoyee

  • Kolkata: The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authorityhas prepared a plan to build a pedestrian subway at the Karunamoyee crossing in Salt Lake, aimed to provide a safe path for people walking across the busy intersection.

    Officials said that after KMDA received approval, tenders would be floated after the Lok sabha election.

    According to the plan, estimated to cost around Rs 8 crore, the underground passage will connect the Karunamoyee bus terminus with Vidyasagar Bhavan across the road.The subway is planned to have both staircases and a lift.

    It was during the bookfair in 2022 that minister Firhad Hakim had announced the plan to set up an underpass at Karunamoyee for the convenience of pedestrians. Authorities expect the project to be completed and operational before the next Kolkata book fair.
