  • Kolkata: A woman appeared before the Calcutta High Court division bench of Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharyya on Tuesday, pleading for the court’s protection and claiming not a single hearing had been held in the complaint of rape she had lodged at the Thakurpukur police station in 2019.

Pointing out she worked at a call centre, the survivor alleged the party in office had cheated her of her entire property. Alleging police inaction, the woman said there had been no hearing though charges had been framed against four accused. Three police officers visited her place and pressured her to make a confidential statement before the police station OC, she alleged.

The woman cited an order of Justice Rajasekhar Mantha on Apr 5, 2023 in this case and alleged police took no action. The CJ asked her to file an application so that the bench could take up the matter for hearing. “The writ has been disposed of. You make an application to the OSD to the Chief Justice,” he said. When she said she made an application but didn’t get a receipt, the CJ said, “Make a fresh application tomorrow.”
