  • Kolkata: Putting the disappointment of Asian Games behind, Tokyo Olympian Pranati Nayak is looking forward to seal her place at Paris Olympics through the FIG Apparatus World Cup 2024 series that serves as qualifying events for the Olympics.

She bagged bronze in the vault event in the Cairo leg and is ranked ninth with 20 points and is looking forward to continuing her good show in the third leg in Baku which will be held from March 7-10.

“Winning a medal in a World Cup event is always special but until I am able to continue my good show in the next two events, I won’t be content or satisfied,” said Nayak, who hails from Bengal and currently trains at Gymnastics High-Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar.

Nayak, who will again be performing the Tsukahara Straight 720, is quite confident of even doing better than Cairo and finishing higher on the podium in Baku. And it’s all because of her much-improved fitness.

“During Asian Games, my fitness wasn’t as good as it is at the moment. The vault that I failed to pull off during the Asiad and took a fall was the same one that I did during the event in Cairo and bagged the bronze medal,” added Nayak.

“Before any competition, it is important to have a good preparation of at least three-four months and I couldn’t do that before the Asiad.”
