• ‘Ripples of Sandeshkhali will be felt across Bengal, women will put an end to TMC’s mafia raj’: PM Modi

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hit out at the Trinamool Congress (TMC) for unleashing “a reign of terror” on women in West Bengal and said that the ripples of the Sandeshkhali issue will be felt across the state. “The women of Bengal will put an end to TMC’s mafia raj,” he added.

PM Modi made these remarks while addressing the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Concluding Karyakram’ mega rally at Barasat in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district.

“In Bengal, women faced atrocities under the TMC rule. What happened in Sandeshkhali is no less than a ghor paap (grave sin). But the TMC government has no sympathy for the mothers and sisters of Bengal. Instead, it made all efforts to protect the offenders. Now the state government has received a setback (over the issue), first at Calcutta High Court and then at the Supreme Court,” Modi said.

“TMC leaders unleashed a reign of terror on women in Bengal. The TMC has faith in its leaders but not in the mothers and sisters of Bengal. Women in the country are reeling under pain and are angry to see what happened in Sandeshkhali. Ripples of the Sandeshkhali issue will be felt across the state…,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister added, “The TMC government which believes in appeasement politics and culture of extortion cannot provide security to women. Only the BJP is working day and night to ensure their safety.”

TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh, who was accused of sexual assault and land-grabbing in Sandeshkhali along with his aides, was arrested early on February 29 after being on the run for 55 days following a mob attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials who had gone to his residence on January 5 to raid his premises in connection with a ration scam.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered the transfer of the probe into the January 5 attack as well as Sheikh’s custody to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Hours later, the state government moved the Supreme Court against the high court order. The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused, both, urgent listing of the matter and stay on the Calcutta High Court order.

Prime Minister Modi also slammed the INDIA bloc alliance leaders for raising questions about his family. “INDIA alliance leaders have lost their balance and started badmouthing Modi. They are asking about my family. They are saying that Modi has no family and that is why he is talking about dynastic politics. They want to know where is Modi’s family? These dynastic politicians should come here and see the number of people who have come here. This is Modi’s parivar. This is Modi’s family. Etai toh amar parivar (This is my family). Banglar prottek maa o bonera amat poribar (Every sister and mother of Bengal are my family). They stand by me like Goddess Durga when people raise questions about my family,” Modi said.
