• HC hands over iPhone probe to CID

  • Kolkata: Calcutta High Court handed over the probe into 1,500 stolen iPhones to the state CID from the West Midnapore district police after the state informed the court that only seven I-Phones have been recovered so far ever since the incident was reported six months ago.

The cops informed that two more phones were recovered since the last hearing in the first week of Feb.

The HC had earlier asked the SP-led probe to be completed at the earliest. It also asked the state to produce the case diary along with a detailed progress report when the case next came up for hearing on Feb 26.

The state had earlier claimed that these iPhones have been recovered across Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana in north India. But no one has been arrested in this case so far.

The court had earlier ordered an in-depth probe — under the supervision of the superintendent of police of West Midnapore — after a transport firm moved the HC, alleging that no concrete action is being taken despite iPhones worth Rs 9.7 crore going missing from a truck at Debra on Sept 28 last year despite the authorities being intimated within an hour of the incident.
