  • Crossing 30 degree Celsius on Thursday, daytime temperature in Kolkata is expected to increase over the next few days, weather department officials said.

    On Thursday, humidity crossed 91 per cent and the city’s sky remained generally cloudy.

    According to the Met department, the temperature will remain around 30 degrees Celsius and above till mid-March.

    Most districts in south Bengal like Howrah, Hooghly, Purulia, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Bankura, Paschim Bardhman, Purba Bardhman, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia are expected to remain dry for the next five days. Paschim Medinipur, Purba Medinipur and Jhargram are likely to experience light rain with thunder on Friday.

    Meanwhile, in Darjeeling, the maximum and minimum temperature rose to 17.2 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively, on Thursday. During the day, temperature levels in Jalpaiguri, Siliguri and Malda crossed 29 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius in Kalimpong. Both Darjeeling and Kalimpong are likely to experience light rain till Sunday. Other districts in north Bengal like Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Coochbehar, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, and Malda are expected to remain dry till next week.
