  • Trinamool Congress (TMC) Chief Mamata Banerjee might declare the list of party candidates for Lok Sabha polls from a mega rally at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on Sunday.

Party insiders said the West Bengal CM is expected to announce the names of candidates for all 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Talking about Sunday’s rally called ‘Jana Garjan Sabha’, TMC leaders said three platforms along with a ‘cross ramp’ have been built at the Brigade.

A senior TMC leader said, “At least 600 party leaders from the block level to the national level will participate in the rally. They will be accommodated on the three platforms. Also, the probable candidates will be there on the stage.”

He further said, “Party MPs Sudip Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Sougata Roy, Kakali Ghosh Dastidar, Mahua Moitra, actor Dev, Pratima Mondol, Prasun Banerjee, and Sajda Ahmed are likely to be fielded again. But a few sitting MPs like Nusrat Jahan, and Chowdhury Mohan Jatua may not be repeated. Some celebrities and children of veteran party leaders may also be given tickets… It all depends on what our supremo Mamata Banerjee finally decides.”

Notably, TMC workers have started trooping into Kolkata on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s rally. They have been housed at party camps in Salt Lake, Howrah, and Gitanjali Stadium in South Kolkata.

State Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari will hold a rally at Nazat in Sandeshkhali on Sunday. The Calcutta High Court on Friday allowed the BJP leader to hold a public meeting on the condition that nothing should be said at the rally which may lead to the deterioration of the law and order situation in the area.

Moreover, Opposition CPI(M) will organise five to six rallies in different parts of the state. On Monday, the Left party will hold a rally in Sandeshkhali.
