55-yr-old dies after speeding vehicle hits cycle, driver held

Kolkata: A cyclist, Sukumar Palodhi (55), died after being knocked down by a speeding vehicle on James Long Sarani under Thakurpukur police station late on Saturday night . According to sources Palodhi was returning home from work on a bicycle when a speeding vehicle hit him. Even as the severely injured man was rushed to Vidyasagar State General Hospital, he was declared brought dead by doctors. Police have arrested the driver of the concrete mixer vehicle.
In another accident, a couple sustained minor injuries when they were hit by a taxi on Red Road on Saturday night. Sources said Chiranjit Dawn (54) was riding a scooter while his wife Pubali (49) was pillion riding. Both residents of Kidderpore were wearing helmets which prevented them from getting severe injuries. While they were discharged from SSKM Hospital after primary treatment cops from Maidan PS have arrested the erring driver. TNN
