Centre brings CAA into effect across India ahead of Lok Sabha polls

The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) has been implemented nationwide by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday (March 11), five years after the Bill was passed in the Parliament. The development comes ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, the rules pertaining to the Act will be announced very soon. Shah last month announced that CAA will be implemented before the Lok Sabha polls after the rules regarding this matter are issued.CAA is aimed to provide quick citizenship to the persecuted non-Muslims from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The Act, enacted on December 11, 2019 was a subject of heated and widespread debates and massive protests throughout India.
